The great acai weight loss scam is still in full force, despite rampant complaints. Research on weight loss claims is nonexistent. The berry comes from cheap sources and is then romanticized as a way to gouge the public. Acai nutritional qualities are average at best. Promotional articles are poorly written and even more poorly supported with the facts. See what I mean in these examples. [Read more…]

“Micro-Session” Cardio Works Best
The every other day diet does not mean that you eat only every other day. No, it is a plan for diet strategies on alternating days so that you can never go hungry or have cravings. It is pretty cool, especially when you know how add cardio exercise for optimum results, as explained here.
[ Jon Benson writes some of the coolest fitness stuff on the Internet, so I know you'll love this recent article from him… ]
Several recent studies have pointed to the validity of doing very short cardio sessions (10 minutes) several times a day as being as beneficial… or even better… than one longer session. I agree, assuming you do some form of interval work in your cardio sessions. In fact, unless you want to drop a lot of bodyfat, you can get by with one 9-minute session a day if you do it right.
Quick Start: Try three super-short sessions with at least a 2-3 minute higher-intensity ‘burst’ in the middle. You do not have to go to the gym to do this. You can do this by walking stairs, stepping up and down on a low platform, or even walking outside. Let’s face it: 10 minutes is a lot easier on the brain than 30 minutes… and just as good.

Fish Oil Weight Loss Benefits From DHA
Fish oil weight loss benefits include protection against metabolic syndrome. DHA deficiency, on the other hand is linked to obesity, metabolic syndrome, and even MS. Read this summary of a research article by scientists at Louis Pasteur University in Strasbourg, France.

DHA deficiency linked to obesity
STRASBOURG, FRANCE. Obesity is a growing problem among adolescents and is often accompanied by metabolic syndrome (MS). Metabolic syndrome involves a cluster of several metabolic abnormalities including overweight (specifically abdominal adiposity), insulin resistance, high triglycerides and low HDL (high-density lipoprotein) levels, and is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
Researchers at the Louis Pasteur University of Strasbourg now report that overweight adolescents and overweight adolescents with MS exhibit significant differences in the fatty acid content of plasma phospholipids when compared to their non-overweight peers. Their study involved 60 12-year-olds (30 boys and 30 girls) with normal weight and 60 12-year-olds who were overweight. Twenty-five per cent of the overweight children had been diagnosed with MS as well (none of the normal weight children had MS). Analyses of the phospholipid phase of the blood plasma revealed several important differences between the overweight and normal-weight groups. There was a highly significant difference in DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) concentration with normal-weight subjects having a substantially higher level. Normal-weight participants also had a significantly higher ratio of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) to standard fatty acid (SFAs). Furthermore, overweight adolescents with MS had even lower levels of DHA and lower PUFA/SFA ratios than did those who were merely overweight.
The researchers conclude that a diet providing a high ratio of PUFAs to SFAs and, more specifically, a high intake of long-chain PUFAs such as DHA may protect obese persons against the development of metabolic syndrome.

Key Fish Oil Component
By all accounts from recent research, the key omega-3 oil from fish is DHA. (The other main omega-3 from fish oil is EPA.) Weight control and other benefits regarding metabolism are just one of the many important benefits from fish oil.
